DYG 5
Here’s the deal. First there is the establishment of a god’s existence. For some there is a fleshing out of the god. Making sure of what your god is makes sure you know where you stand in the world. The biggest idea in this series is awareness of our gods and what the implications are because of our gods.
Second, there must be a validation of your god. Figuring out what your god does or what your god is worth is vital. If you have a retarded god, perhaps you haven’t considered your priorities in life very carefully. Notice we haven’t covered any speeches about what makes a good god or a bad god, or whether we are good or bad because of our choice of gods. This should be an analysis made personally through examination of the god (which is more the purpose of this series).
Third, some serious self-flogging to get the desired information is in order. People keep secrets, sometimes from themselves. Not thinking about something can make us feel less complicated, uncertain, scared, dirty or ugly. We should want to know what all these questions really reveal. There are personal qualities are found lurking in our gods that others may have seen in us but we have not, so it may be an interesting exercise to have someone else answer the questions about you and see what happens. Flaws and virtues are hidden in the answers. You might be able to identify superficialities in your life or get a grasp on what really makes you tick.
Fourth, hitting closer to home, is the trustworthiness of the thing we have declared to be our god. A god is, simply put, what rules our lives. Just as a good president should be worthy of the position, a god should be worthy of the position. If we make a poor choice for our guide, we may end up in a poor place. It is extremely important to know whether a role-model (god) is worth imitating. It is absolutely vital to know that the One-Thing-That-Makes-My-Life-Go-On is going to enable me to do it right. If you were on the outside, looking at a person who has your gods, consider your reaction to that person. Are they crazy? Are they paranoid? Are they squared away? Are they well-adjusted? Are they competent? Are they walking the edge? Look objectively at the answers to the questions. Based on how the world works, in your understanding, are your gods leaving you better or worse off? Do You Trust Your God?
